Rye Fish Market is an exciting local business set in the heart of the local fishing community, driven by locally landed fish. We opened our doors for the first time in 2022.
The inspiration for the design for the Fish Market lies firmly on the continent - If you have ever been lucky enough to experience the fish markets of France or Spain, you will feel right at home in Rye. We have a huge selection of local fish that is landed right behind the shop each day. We have lobster tanks and cook our own lobsters, crabs and whelks too. We will fillet and prepare your fish any way that you like - and be on hand with preparation and cooking tips.
In June 2023, we added a fully licensed Seafood Bar to the mix, serving fabulous fresh locally caught, cooked and prepared fish & seafood. Our core menu includes wonderful fresh oysters, locally caught crab sandwiches and lobster rolls. Our focus remains firmly on local produce. The fish is all caught by our boats here in Rye and along the Sussex coastline. The bread is made especially for us by local artisan bakers: Brioche by Andrew at the Oak Bakery and Sourdogh by Rye's own self-proclaimed Lazy Baker Richard at The Whitehouse.
And then there's the bar! Again, we focus heavily on local producers. We have wonderful wine from local producers Charles Palmer, Mountfiled and Chapple Down and beer and cider from the Three Legs Brewery and Curious Brew.
The Fish Market is part of the Chapmans Fish Group. The Rye depot is a fish landing site, a wholesale and retail company and export hub for Kent and Sussex.
Our company has over 35 years experience in the fish industry - and is still very much a family run operation. Located on the banks of the Rye Estuary on the boarder of Kent and East Sussex, Rye is one of the few working harbours left in the UK. The site operates as a landing depot for small local fishing boats across Kent and Sussex., where fishing boats can land right up to the depot.
